Never Fear, Dental Implants are Here

Create Natural Looking Smiles

It is easy to underestimate the power of a confident smile. Broken or discolored front teeth cause many people to shy away from smiling in social interactions. For many people, advanced tooth decay results in tooth loss, while for others it may be the result of an injury. Missing or unhealthy teeth and gums may make eating certain foods difficult. One of the great things about dental implants is that once the healing period is complete, people are able to enjoy their favorite foods again. Dr. Alex Planes is the Vero Beach cosmetic dentist to see to determine if dental implant surgery is a viable option.

What Type of Dental Implants are Available?

Whether it is just one tooth or a full arch that needs to be replaced, implants offer patients some of the most natural looking and feeling dental prosthetics on the market. All implant procedures begin with a consultation with Dr. Planes at Planes Dental Arts. Once x-rays are completed, a plan is made based on the patient’s teeth, bone, and gum health. Existing teeth or root structure must be removed to provide clear access to the jawbone. One or more titanium rods are screwed into the jaw bone and will fuse with the bone’s structure. Temporary teeth may be put in place until it is time to add a connector piece called an abutment, and then the new permanent teeth. Healing time takes approximately 3-8 months depending on individual patient factors.

Single Implants

Single implants replace individual teeth. These are nearly indistinguishable from natural teeth and should be cared for as though they are natural teeth with diligent brushing and flossing.

Bridge Implants

Bridge implants replace 3 or more adjacent teeth without anchoring to nearby healthy teeth.

Full Mouth Restoration

Full mouth restoration includes three replacement options:

  • Removable Dentures: One or both arches are fitted with a predetermined number of implants. Dentures securely attach to the implants to prevent slippage and improve comfort. This type of implant supported denture must be removed, brushed, and soaked nightly.
  • Full Fixed Prosthetics Implant: These are similar to the removable version in that one or both arches can be replaced. However, this prosthetic remains in the mouth permanently. Patients enjoy a strong, natural looking set of teeth. Brushing and rinsing replacement teeth and gums will create a healthy oral environment that may very well allow the implants to last a lifetime.
  • Mini Implants: For mouths with limited space or limited bone structure, mini implants may be an option. They are much thinner and smaller than traditional implants, but still provide a solid anchor for bridges and dentures.
  • All on 4 Implant Therapy: When bone structure is questionable, All-on-4 implants may be an ideal fixed prosthetic option. The implants are angled to maximize bone contact. Because only 4 implants are used in each arch, healing time may be faster with proper care.
